Potty Training
Our program believes potty training is a natural developmental process that should be approached with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.
We work closely with families to support each child's individual timeline and needs.
Children must demonstrate signs of readiness before beginning potty training in our program.
Signs of potty training readiness:
Staying dry for periods of two hours or more, showing interest in using the toilet, communicating toileting needs verbally or through gestures, walking steadily and beginning to run, following simple two-step instructions, have gone two full weeks with a dry pull-up.
**Kindly note, after two accidents children will be put in a pull-up.
Family responsibilities:
Provide at least four complete changes of clothes daily, supply pull-ups, underwear, and any special toileting supplies, communicate about home routines and successful strategies, maintain consistency between home and program approaches, and replace soiled clothing and supplies as needed.
Harborside Child Care will communicate if our team feels an adjustment to the approach or a break from training may be beneficial for the child.
